Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for anyone responsible for managing, advising, maintaining, and examining PPE at height. This may include independent examiners, health and safety professionals, rope access supervisors or rope rescue team leaders to name but a few.
Prerequisites
Course participants must be a minimum of 18 years old and can read and write in English. They should have knowledge of the types and styles of PPE commonly used in their place of work as well as an understanding of key UK Health and Safety Legislation such as the Health and Safety at Work Act. Learners may also be required to provide proof of identity at the start of their training.
Content
This course covers the relevant regulations and codes of practice such as EN, CE and UKCA marking, the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations and specific guidance such as the Work at Height Regulations and British Standards. Where appropriate the Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations, Activity Centres Act and National Governing Body guidance will also be covered for those working in the adventure activities sector. Learners will have hands on experience of genuine PPE failures and explore PPE management administration including cloud-based systems. Learners will discuss Examiner best practice including providing advice on failures, trend identification and basic, permitted repairs. By the end of the course learners will be able to carry out “Thorough Examinations” as a competent person within their own organisation.
Assessment
This course culminates in a summative multi-choice assessment paper and timed thorough examination assessment.
Certification
Successful learners will be issued with an STC PPE Competent Person certificate of competence and photo ID card valid for 3 years from the date of assessment; annual refreshers are recommended.
